Staghound Finished

Finished the Blitzkreig Miniatures Staghound Armoured Car. It looks right grubby after doing a recce behind enemy lines down those Normandy lanes. The decals are from Dom's Decals.
I used it in a game we had on the weekend & it managed to survive being shot at by a Panther!
Unfortunately I don't have an AAR for you as the batteries in the camera went flat- only had two shots from the early stages of the game- I shall put them at the end of this post.

Two pictures salvaged from a KGN battle last weekend using "No Man's Land" scenario:

The cow has an objective marker on his base :)

Puma taken out by 3" Mortar stonk & Tiger supressed. The Germans still managed to win, they had some deadly success with a Hummel.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures.

    1. I'm glad you think it looks ok, I thought it might have been too grotty.

  3. Its a great little model. From all of the pictures I have seen, what has impressed me about the Blitzkreig Miniatures pieces is the level of all round detail they have achieved with a small number of parts, without the inconvenience of a moulded on base. And very nicely finished too!

    Cheers, Dave

    1. Have to agree Dave about the BM stuff that I've seen at least. Easy to put together & looks good on the table- reasonable price too.

  4. I don't think 'too grotty' can possibly apply to AFVs that have been up at the sharp end... A fine model of a veteran vehicle!

Seem to recognise that Tiger I... :-)

    1. Cheers Archduke.
Tiger belongs to a friend of mine & is a pre-painted model, not sure what manufacture- Dragon maybe?

    1. Yes Dave, it's a downloadable card model from Scalescenes.com. It came as part of a set with a farmhouse- which I have finished recently & hope to post soon.

  7. A shot from a Panther? And got away from that???
If something is made by good materials..... :-)
Nice work John. It looks very realistic.

    1. Thanks mate, glad you like it.
I think the Panther just missed actually as the Staghound was partially obscured behind a barn. The cheeky Staghound actually tried a couple of shots at the Panther, but in the end a Churchill took out the Panther with a shot in the flank!

  8. Hi John. I am new to your blog but love the site! I am interesting in picking up one or two of the Staghounds. My only concern in the lack of the machine gun modeled on the hull. You mentioned you added one. Can you tell me how and from where you got the part?

Also, how do you like the RTR M5? Looks like a great model.

Lastly, from a scale comparison, how do these resin models like RTR and Blitzkrieg compare to the PSC or other manufacturers?

  9. Hi Mitchel. The MG on the Staghound was probably just a length of metal rod (like a paper-clip), which was glued into a small hole I drilled.
The RTR M5 is pretty good, but you have to bear in mind that I added a lot of after-market stowage from Black Dog to improve the overall appearance. If you were collecting mobile infantry for an armoured division I would probably go for the PSC half-tracks. This is the only M5 that I have, I didn't really want a whole box full.

I don't like the solid resin underneath the RTR vehicles - it could be removed with a dremel type tool if you wanted. The Blitzkrieg stuff was excellent, but it looks like they have switched to other scales now. Also worth considering the Britannia resin range sold by Grubby Tanks. I really like the PSC Universal Carriers too. As far as scale goes, all these seem to mix in rather well.

  10. Thank you for the fast reply. I will probably try the Staghound. It's hard to find one in plastic other than the RPM version. I agree with you, as to the solid resin underneath models. Not my thing. However, the work you did on the M5 was fantastic. I do have some Black Dog product for other models and I feel it is first rate. So is your work. Looking forward to following your blog.

I have not been doing much 20mm WW2 stuff of late, so I hope you still find some posts on the blog that are of interest to you.
